About Us

DMH Music showcases songs written by Diann and Mitch Hammer. We are a wife and husband song writing team. Mainly we focus on creating lyrics about some of life’s experiences that many of us have shared. We have been refining and sharpening our songwriting skills for the past several years with the help of Sheree’ Spoltore’ and her great organization, Global Songwriters Connection. Through Sheree’, we are incredibly fortunate to work with several talented musicians in Nashville on the music for our songs.

Like many songwriters we dream about hearing one of our songs on the radio. At the same time we understand how many talented singers, songwriters and musical groups are out there and efforts they make to be heard. We are actively pitching our songs to publishers in Nashville and are hopeful one of our tunes will be what they’re looking for.

Many of our friends and family members have asked us to share our music so we have created this website as our way to be heard. Also we would like to share our journey with you in hopes that it might encourage someone to take that first step and write a song.

I have always loved music and have come full circle and is pursuing my passion as a songwriter along with her spouse, Mitch. We are now actively pitching our demos in Nashville. Recently, our song “Tidal Wave” was awarded the grand prize in the country category of the 2016 Session-II John Lennon Songwriting Contest.  “No One Knows,” received the second place Silver Award in the pop category at the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Song Contest and also honorable mention for “Magic” and “Sunset View.” “No One Knows,” placed in the top ten at the 2016 Pensacola Beach Song Contest. At the 2016 SongDoor International Songwriting Competition, “Night Ride” and “Tidal Wave” received honorable mention in the country category, and “Feeling You Everywhere” and “No One Knows” in the pop category. In 2015 several of our songs placed in the top ten at the 2015 Pensacola Songwriters Festival Song Contest, and the 2015 Frank Brown International Songwriters Contest. Let me just say that while it’s taken some time, I am excited about the next steps in my songwriting journey.

My unique career path included being a server, telemarketer and retail manager. Later in life I earned a law degree and set up my own practice representing the needs of abused and neglected foster children in Washington.D.C., and went on to found several small business with my husband. This path has provided a unique backdrop for creating songs.

In my songs, I seek to tap into the emotional journey life’s experiences. Some of my musical influences include Joss Stone, Bruno Mars, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Smoky Robinson and Carol King andy my style of songs fits best into the Country/Pop and Pop genres.

I am a member of BMI, Global Songwriters Connection (GSC) and NSAI, Songwriters Association of Washington, (SAW). Mitch and I live in the Maryland in the Washington D.C. Metro area and visit Nashville often to connect with the songwriting community and to take advantage of Nashville’s educational opportunities to develop as a songwriter.

I have taken the road-less-traveled to get to the place where Diann and I now have a number of song demos that are being actively pitched in Nashville. This journey has taken a few years and it’s only recently that I have found the courage to say to myself (and others) that I am a songwriter. Like Diann, I was also surrounded by music (my father was a band singer for many years). Since completing college, I accumulated a wide-range of life experiences. I have been a university professor, published books and articles and worked as an intercultural relations consultant, a hostage negotiator and an advisor to international kidnappings as well as started with Diann, three small businesses.

A few years ago, Diann and I sang the karaoke version of Garth Brooks; “Squeeze Me In.” That was a turning point for us and we made a commitment to explore our creative side through songwriting. I can’t believe how much joy I feel when I am writing songs! This journey is fantastic and I can’t wait to see what the future will bring!

When I get into the “songwriter zone”, I strive to paint vivid, down-to-earth images so the listener has a front-row seat to the song’s emotional truth and unfolding story. Some of my musical influences include Kris Kristofferson, Kid Rock, Bruno Mars, Joss Stone, and Jennifer Nettles. I would describe my musical direction as Country/Pop and Pop genres.

I am a member of ASCAP, Global Songwriters Connection (GSC), and NSAI. Diann and I live in the Washington D.C. Metro area and travel as much as possible to Nashville.
